The LHT is very comfortable and stable, loaded or unloaded.

The photo with panniers shows the bike bagged out on an extended credit card tour. It's carrying about 35 lbs, including bags. Those are Arkel T-42 panniers on a Topeak MTX rack on back and Arkel GT-18 panniers on an AC LowRider rack up front.

The photo without panniers shows the bike configured for local or day rides, with a Topeak trunk bag.

I wanted trekking or butterfly handlebars from the start, but couldn't find any in stock when I bought the bike. Finally, after 6,500 miles I finally installed some.

So far, I find them more comfortable than either drop bars or
straight bars.

Just turned over 9,000 miles on the LHT and still think it's the most comfortable ride I ever had.

Modifications since purchase:
1. Put on smaller granny gear ... to 24/36/48 from 26/36/48. It does make a difference.
2. Put on a
stem raiser.
3. It went through two cycles with the handle bars, First step was to replace the drop bars with flat bars and bar ends, then replaced the flat bars with trekking bars. The change to flat bars required new brake
levers, moving the bar end shifters to Paul's Thumbies on the handle bars. When moving from the flats to trekking bars, I installed a longer stem. The present setup is very comfortable.
4. After about 100 miles, the original WTB
Slickasarus tires were replaced with Continental Travel Contacts. The Contis have been on the bike ever since. I like the Contis because they're flat resistant and roll very well.
5. The saddle was replaced because a rail on the
original broke at about 7,000 mi.
6. Replaced the Sram 9 speed chain after about 7,200 miles.

The current photo shows the bike with trekking bars. The rear panniers were upgraded to Arkel GT54s ... like I need to carry more
stuff.
