It's funny because the UCI (international cycling union?) and USADA act as though banning Lance stopped all doping in cycling. It's as though they are treating him as the ring leader. Doping existed prior to LA and will exist after LA.

Sometimes a headwind is really a tailwind, and sometimes a tailwind is really a headwind, to your development. Deep Thoughts.

Maybe they think pro cycling is different from every other pro sport I'm aware of - all of them have doping issues, and none can say those issues have been addressed 'once and for all'. There is no such thing as 'once and for all' when it comes to doping.

This decision will stop no one from doping so long as there is significant money to be made by those who do it sucessfully. I'm not saying that's right or wrong - but it is the truth.

I admired Lance for winning 7 TDF's. I never liked him as person. I always thought he was arrogant and childlike. I didn't like the way he dumped his wife after caring for him when he was sick. I didn't like the way he used team mates, called them friends, and when they started to show promise he would squash their dreams. I'm thinking of Kevin Livingstone, Hamilton, Simeoni and others. Now that he has been proven a cheater and liar by doping he shouldn't exist in cycling. All records changed and his name forgotten so we can go on. Omerta rules, as per mafia, when somebody is whacked you never even say his name again. That's what I propose.

proven?

Lance decided not to fight the charges against him. He never failed a drug test. You would think that they would actually catch him during the seven years and multiple tests that they would find something in the system but, they didn't. Flod Landis got caught by just putting his own blood back into his system causing there to be more white blood cells than normal and they caught him.

The main problem I see is it bike racers like anybody else are just human beings. the media and all the rest work really hard and building these guys up to where eventually they have to fail and whose fault is that? The difference in fitness between guy standing on the podium and everybody else is so small and the rewards and pressure are so great what do you expect?

As for all of the comments i've been reading about how upset they are, my suggestion is to find another hobby. Maybe something like checkers where physical prowess really isn't a factor. 30 years ago I tried racing but I was too damn slow. So I became a mechanic. I still ride my bike every day and I love doing it. I don't think it makes much difference to me who won the last tour, riding is still a hell of a lot of fun and its good for you.

so my suggestion is to step back, take a deep breath and relax, or better yet hop on your trainer and put in about 30 minutes and let those endorphins do their thing.

physical prowess not being in checkers or chess?

I've seen some of those guys wearing the carpal tunnel braces during tournaments!

Cracking your knuckles the wrong way can lead to a career ending injury!

Lance decided not to fight because he knew he would lose. As for the never failed a test propaganda, he tested positve for cortisone after the '99 prologue and scrambled to produce a back dated prescription for cortisone cream for a "saddle sore" that he "forgot" to disclose as a therapuetic use exemption the week before the Tour. Then there's the 6 re-tested samples that were positive for EPO when the test for EPO was perfected. There's good evidence in the reasoned decision of a cover up of an EPO positive from the 2001 Tour de Suisse. The reasoned decision also had good evidence of blood manipulation under the biological passport during his comeback of 2009-10. Since it took so long for an EPO test to be perfected, you really wouldn't think they would find something in his system, especially considering all of the others (Ullrich, Basso, etc.) who also never failed a test but doped. As for Floyd, he was nailed for testosterone, not transfusing. You may be thinking of Hamilton.

I have always had respect for him as a rider, as I do for many of the pros....drugs notwithstanding, as I believe that the vast majority of riders in the LA era were also dirty. What I do NOT respect him for is for being a bully and a thug when it came to keeping his involvement secret, when he KNEW people were telling the truth about him....destroying peoples`careers and lives...using threats and implied threats to keep up his facade. Most of the vitriol being spewed in his direction, deservedly so in my eyes, could have been avoided if he had come clean and been contrite and apologetic. I can understand his desire to maintain his image, but to what end. If he feels any shame or remorse, I would be very surprised.
