My new bike: Raleigh Grand Prix

Scored a free bike. Its a Raleigh Grand prix. I believe it dates from 1978 but Im not quite sure. It is apparently in mint condition and the guys at the bike shop were drooling over it! So, I have decided to restore it and use it as a regular bike. New tires, cables, tape, and a good cleaning and adjusting seems to be all it needs. I will snap some pictures and track the progress.

Does anyone have a good link to some info / history / repair tips on this model bike?

Thanks!

Raleigh Catalog Archive

The 1978 catalog (pdf file) doesn't have pics of the Gran Prix but does have specs for it on page 6. Maybe you can find pics in one of the other catalogs.

It was a middle-of-the-road 29 lb. bike. Respectable for its day. For free? Great find if it's your size.

Great even if it isn't. Clean it up, do what needs to be done to it, then see that it gets to a new home rather than the dump. Making a few extra bucks on the side isn't a bad thing either.
