packing a coaster hub (bendix)

Ok, so I repacked my ss coaster hub yesterday and everything seems to be fine. but then I started wondering; is there supposed to be grease packed on the brake shoes? I didn't put any on the shoes because it doesn't make much sense, but then again I've never worked on coaster hubs before. Why would you put grease on a friction surface used to stop the bike? It seems like everyone online is just packing the hubs full of grease.

From what I recall, grease on the brake shoes is a really bad idea. It doesn't just mess with your braking, but something else terrible happens.

grease shoes ?

Back when I repacked bendix hubs I don't remember putting grease on the outside ofpads themselves. but I do remember putting grease on the inside of the pads were they touch the cam. you might check Bicycle Coaster Brakes. but I would not sweat it unless you flood the inside with grease I think you will be ok.

Here is another sight BMXmuseum.com Forums / bendix coaster brake tutorial
