I think you are right on every count. Pulling my trailer builds stamina and the 'free' trailerless rides are cake. I have two craigslist Nordic traks for different uses on different bikes; the transport cargo bike has a center rear hitch mount and the mountain bike has the more standard near axle mount, so the trailers are set up for whichever ride I take out. I removed the nylon covers, they were tattered anyway, and fitted screen and whatever to carry my dog, a harness loop keeps him from jumping out. The plan is to never buy fossil fuel again, we'll see how far i get, but so far this year i have not stopped at any gas station. My bikes carry me for most purposes, and as i get more ornery about it they will carry me even farther.

I rent or borrow a car on occasion, so can't commit to the "never buy fossil fuel again" pledge, but I applaud your commitment to that goal!

Trailers always seem to get thrown out at certain times of the year . Church sales are good sources as well . Lots of basically good trailer stock out there, just begging for modifications . Frame, wheels, creativity . All you really need .

I saw one in our local classified ads that had a large plexiglass and aluminum box built onto the platform. They wanted $25, but never answered their damn phone. Not sure what the box was for, but a nice Q/R attachment, and a solid set of wheels on the platform would certainly be worth the asking price.
