Yep!! And it could be from anywhere. QL, multifidus, deep obliques, intercostals, etc. while the beach muscles can cause dysfunction, if you hammer glutes and that still doesn't help, then there's something else in the kinetic chain that needs to be assessed and corrected.
On that note "Assess and Correct" by Eric Cressey is an awesome book for this.

Prescribe anti inflammatory meds, why is this always the way? They just mask the symptom without addressing the root cause.
I get it in extreme pain cases, but this is way too common of an occurrence. Correct movement dysfunction, and you can reduce inflammation quite a bit.

I haven't been to a chiropractor since my friend (and fellow cyclist) Mike Shreeve left his practice and went to the college to teach. That's been 6 years ago. I'll check with her as I could use some other chiropractic work not related to the knee problem.
She's on the other side of the bay, but I don't mind driving if it helps or takes care of the problem.

Half way to 60 but I recently suffered from knee pain that I though could be ITBS. I feared that it could be a result if over training. I stopped by my LBS, where I had previously had a professional fit, and after a 10 minute visit and an adjustment to my saddle height, I never had the pain again.
I also purchased a foam roller, this is excellent advise from everyone else! And, I also picked up some KT tape. There are videos online that help with application. Both help with discomfort and proper "alignment". In reading about the subject, weight training focusing on the knees will help (I wouldn't throw too much weight on though).
