I've been riding a 2011 Pinarello FP3 for nearly two years and have covered 4k miles....any ideas how often a BB bracket should be replaced.....I've changed the rear cassette and chain already.....I run Ultegra was thinking of a Dura Ace BB ??!
A good quality BB should be good for about 10-15k miles unless ridden often in wet conditions or subject to repeated bike cleanings with direct hose spray. I doubt yours is kicked at 4k. Your cassette should last 3-5 times longer than your chain, unless you run your chain to death and kill the cassette along with it, or unless your cassette has ti cogs. Use a chain check tool to gauge wear and replace as indicated to save cassette life. A mod may want to move this thread to the mechanics section to get more play.
I'm with Merlin on this one. No need to change a BB or cassette every time you get a new chain. I will be putting my second, non-OEM chain on my Colnago next month and it's only a year old, but reaching 6,000 miles. If your crankset it tight and has no play in it, your BB is good to go. I would also recommend getting a chain wear tool, especially if you own more than one bike.
You guys and your tidy road bikes. I bought a used MTB that was only a few months old, and the BB was like sandpaper.
Well, I have to admit that my hybrid gets nowhere near the TLC that the Colnago does. I've had the hybrid for almost three years and just had a tune up and changed the chain.
