There is more to setting up disc brakes than in the vidio but it is a good start. I think you nead to read the BBB along with the vidio. You nead to set the pads for a hard brake or a soft brake. On the one vidio he uses a rubber band to actuate the brake, I use a little clamp , it is inportant to tighten the bolts a little at a time or thay will move and torque the bolts to the right amount, to little and thay will loosen to much and you will have a hole with no threads. These are things I have come to find

Good info. My bike has rim brakes at the moment, but it's designed to accept discs. I've been growing steadily more interested with the passage of time - especially having ridden in poor weather and frozen conditions. Rim brakes sound awful after a few miles of snow and frozen crud. Hate to think of what that sound means for the rims .

I'm certain you can buy discs online for less than rim brakes from your LBS. Or close enough to make it a no-brainer.

I have 3 bikes with disc brakes I don't think I would buy a bike to ride with out them, maybe a single speed.

You ride a loaded bike disc brakes would serve you well. You can get mechanical disc calipers and rotor at reasonable prices online.
