I always ride alone, it's just easier that way. My son is talking about getting a bike and riding with me. We'll see how that goes.

Solo, like it that way, do it early in the morning, gets hot quick down here. Compete against myself for now. May start riding with one of my pilots, who knows

I can definitely understand how riding with others can push someone harder.

I like group rides. The fitness center where I work out has a weekly group ride. I ride that when my work schedule allows(which is almost never because they ride in the evening while I'm at work). I like the big event rides like the MS-150 and The Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure. Now that's a big group. That said most of my riding is solo. I live in the middle of nowhere, I ride to work. I'm the only one where I work that rides a bike. I just got back from a week in Williamsburg Va. I rode my bike alone. I used to haul my wife's and my sister in law's bike down to Virginia every time we would go visit her little sister. A lot of hauling and not much riding. This year I just brought my own. My wife likes me to ride with someone in case something happens. Can't find anyone wanting to do the rides I do at the times I have to do them. She about had a fit when I did the Washington to Pittsburgh trail by myself. I have had a few crashes over the years and yes ambulances were involved along with months long recoveries so I can see why my wife worries. In fact right now I'm still off work recovering from an accident where I was ambushed coming home from work at 11:30 at night. Three deer jumped me as I was going 25 mph down a hill, deer are evil. Now she thinks I shouldn't ride my bike to work.

Hope you have a full and speedy recovery. Deer are a problem for me, too. I use a bright helmet mounted light at night and scan the road sides for them -- of course, they could jump out of the woods at any time. I need to get one of those silent whistles like they have for cars -- wonder how fast you need to go for them to work?

I will be riding solo when i head out this fall. However, if I meet up with someone on the road I might ride together for a day or two.

Thought this a good place to jump in. I ride mostly solo. Working for myself and out of the house, I can pick odd times to hop on for a quick ride if I want, and sometimes I can even get out for an hour. On tuesday nites there's a small group that rides about 12 miles which I join most times. It's about 8 of us and it's fun to do. The other groups I know tend to ride before dawn which doesn't work for me. I like to sleep till at least 7am on weekends. Plus my heart doesn't start pumping till about 10am.

I'm going on my first group ride of the year at 6pm today. The group rides hadn't started yet for the year when I hit the deer. I'm not back to work but almost there. I figured I better get a couple good rides in before I'm back to work and missing them all. This group usually averages 16+ mpr and rides 30 miles or so.
