I got the clipless peddles put on and it's not too bad. I find the rollers very tiring just because you have to concentrate so much plus I stare at a spot on the wall to stay straight and it gets old real fast. Hopefully I'll get good enough on them to watch tv soon.

This concentration is what you are looking for. It's the whole reason a person uses rollers. Otherwise just use a stationary cycle.

Most riders never grasp that concentration of bike attitude is essential to going fast. You must be thinking about keeping the bike steady all the time. This is the only way to optimize energy transfer to the road. It's a subtle thing but the difference between being a good rider (fast) and just another bloke in the pack.

Try visualizing road ways or races or situations as you use rollers. Use your imagination. You should never be bored. Move your hands around, shift your weight on the saddle and do those things without disrupting the bike's attitude. That being the steadiness and lack of rocking back and forth. Practice changing clothing tops while riding no hands. Stand, sprint, do all that you do outside. But never let your mind go numb. If this is too boring you may have to come to realize cycling excellence is not for you. You can still get a workout, but a real workout involves the head as much as the legs.

Agree. That's the reason I love my rollers. Keeps me alert. To me, that makes the time go faster. Plus, as also stated, working on those little things on the rollers does definitely make a noticable difference on the road.

I'm admittedly just another bloke in the pack. Heck I'm not even that as I don't ride in a pack. LOL! I don't race and I'm just looking for a way to burn some calories this winter in hopes of having thunder thighs by spring.

Nothing wrong with this. I tend to view all cycling as a race. Just me.

I have researched many indoor spin bikes and decided to purchase a reburished Star Trak. Any comments? I do not just want rollers. I am going to purchase some DVD's. as well. Once spring comes. I will be back outside.

No comments on the Star Trak, but check out Cycling training videos - The Sufferfest for training videos. I love them! Some reviews are here
