speaking of brown... once a chain is that rusted, is it salvageable, or are you better off just getting a new one?

Iron oxide makes an excellent abrasive media...

I ride 90% of the time road and 10% Off road I do most of my off road ride when I am on vacation.

Once a chain is as rusted as the Raleigh is in post #9, it should be replaced. I COULD perform an electrolysis rust removal on objects that are less than 24" (bulk) but I am sure the wear is beyond help on that chain.

However, there are a lot of parts on that bike that can be salvaged by electrolysis.

Hack, I still haven't found a serial number yet.
