If I wanted to fix the end of a brake cable where the tip cap thing came off where can I get one of those?

I have heard put the wire through then clamp a piece of metal over it?

Your LBS should have cable ends. Just crimp it on with a pair of pliers.

Will bike stores sell just the brake cables in whatever length you need?

Any good bike shop should have brake cable, housing, and the cable ends. Brake cable generally comes in one length to accommodate all bikes and you cut it to length.
