It is all about what kind or riding you want to do, how comfortable you want to be and how quick you want your ride to be.

Trek makes great bikes for a fair price. They use all of the latest and greatest products and assemble them on their sturdy frames properly. I have had my trek mtb for just over 2 1/2 years now, and it has never let me down.

For a nice smooth ride, try something like a cruiser, or if you want a quick commute, a road bike, or for that versatility try a mountain bike.

I would say if you're looking for on the cheap that'll be good in a lot of conditions, go for the 3 or 4 series. They've got really good components for not a lot of dough.

If you want cheapest from them, go Trek 820 (what I have, and it's really good) or the 3 series which isn't much more for say, the 3700 which has an aluminum frame, but mostly the same components as the 820.

the aluminum frame really helps with long distance riding. its more of you just moving your weight and not so much the bike

Steel will give a better ride over long distances, but most folks go with aluminum for lighter weight. If you're ride is just a short commute, get the less expensive bike, and put any savings towards gloves, a helmet, and maybe a rack and some panniers.

Trek is a fine bike, I have two. But if you're truly budget minded you should check out Fuji bikes, compare price and components against Trek. I think Trek can be a bit overpriced.

Trek makes great bikes. They also make Gary Fisher branded stuff too so another brand to consider if you like Trek stuff. If you wanna keep it cheaper than new you can always look for used bikes on craigslist or Play it Again Sports if you got one in your area.

I dont believe in telling you what you info you can find at manufacturers web site but i can tell you the 7100 hybrid rides very comfortably. You notice how everybody talks up or puts down a bike and its manufacturer but no review on a bike so thats why I can only tell you about the 7100 it can take the road or trail ( or should I say the rough roads too )
