Which part of a the North Island? I toured both islands in a Kea camper a few years ago, and made Papakura my home base while on the North Island. Camped by Lake Taupo too. Beautiful country.

I don't think I ever got over to Hastings. I went from Wangarei to Wellington along the west coast, and probably not much farther east than Rotorua. Ever been to the Guana Bar in Wellington?
