60 mile ride. Safety gear worth their weight in gold.

I went for a 60 mile bike ride with my friend Tim yesterday. He use to race and is teaching me and helping me train toward a century. I did pretty good for my 2nd 60 mile ride, but about the halfway point, Tim was following behind me a little too close through a series of curves and clipped my back tire. I recovered, but Tim wasn't so lucky. He went down and knocked the wind out of him. His hand was bruised, but his gloves protected him from any road rash. His helmet was cracked up pretty well, but he didn't have a mark on his head or face. He did have a small cut on his butt and a deep bruise, but was able to ride the 30 miles to get home. A good lesson in wearing your gear. The bike survived, minus the water bottle holders.

Sounds like he didn't learn the proper lesson which is don't suck someone's wheel. 6" more between you and he wouldn't even need the helmet and gloves.

Glad you guys are OK though.
