10 mile ride
100 doors opening per hour
10 mph cyclists faces a possible 100 "doorings"
20mph cyclist faces a possible 50 "doorings"
Of course, this numerical advantage is somewhat offset by reduced reaction time and longer stopping distance.
I highly recommend a strobe headlight.
Being right at rearview mirror level, it gets me "seen"!

Oh! Same stats for driveways, alleys etc. 1/2 the number!

Per mile!
20mph cyclist spends 1/2 the time being a target in the intersection.
20mph cyclist faces 1/2 the oncoming traffic ... so 1/2 the chance of a T-Bone!
20mph cyclist deals with 1/4 the same direction traffic ... so 1/4 the possible right-hooks!

Really! This was all explained in the thread!
Did you even bother to read it?

Seems to me there are a lot of variables not addressed by this theory.
I have a home made widescreen-wideangle mirror mounted off my helmet.
Everything is always "in view" using near periphery, slight eye movement for HD view.

Per mile!
20mph cyclist deals with 1/4 the same direction traffic and 1/2 the opposing traffic.

I guess you did not read the thread ... every comparison is "per mile"!

Honestly!
Did you even read the thread?
You seem to have missed most of it.
Most every question of yours is answered in it!

If you don't believe, or can't understand, the math ... have someone, you are willing to believe, explain it to you.

Of course I didn't read this whole thread, and don't intend to.

So ... why do you feel you must comment on something ... that you have no knowledge or understanding of?

I understand it, I just disagree with it -- but I don't want to get sucked into this thread any further, so I'm done. Have a nice day.

I'm afraid that your questions clearly betray your lack of understanding ...

"Sucked in"?
You dove in! ... without even looking!

Speed +++

Speed alone is not enough!

Be seen

Bright clothes
Strobe headlight - Cree high-low-strobe wide-zoom light - $6
Tail flashing light - Tail-turn-brake light + horn - $9.49

Be aware

Rearview mirror -
I mounted a bar-end mirror on my vizor
Velcroed a $6 zoomed light to helmet (look around corners or spot pot holes further ahead, "beam" drivers who don't see me, etc)
Headlight - $6 light, above or ...
Burn a hole in the night!

PS Air horn is handy!

Sorry Charlie. It's not a bicycle, it's a motorbike.

Hot helmet

It's been so hot lately that I discarded my helmet, in favor of a baseball cap.
No AC and been in the 90's for the past couple weeks, I cycle through the forest trails to cool down.
The down side is losing my helmet attached mirror.

Strange how dependent I've become.
The brief stretches of traffic, getting to the trail, leave me feeling naked and vulnerable.
I find myself twisting my head, to my poor necks limit ... every few seconds.
I can't believe that I ever went mirrorless ...

Had to dig up my old #1 mirror ... Batteries were still good ... in the tail light!

Made it about ... 2008?
Consists of inspection mirror, hair clip and black duct tape.

I know, I know ... I should always wear a helmet.
I resisted ... mainly because I was being told to, until ...
A geared-up 5 year old , pointed at me, and informed me, "You gonna weck! An you bwain will faw out!"
Couldn't fight that logic.
So I helmeted, of course, protecting my head in case of a wreck wasn't enough ... for me.
I had to help avoid wrecks so ...

"Bar end" mirror, by Zefel. ($6 Walmart)
260 Lumen zoomable light, w/lighted red ring, ($6 China)(velcro attached) with zoomed strobe during day and high at night, for spotting potholes and beaming vehicles on collision course, 5 led flashing tail light. ($2-3 China) .

No motorized vehicles on the forest trail!

Ride a bicycle on the forest trail.

You may go faster on an E-bike but you'll miss out on many of the benefits and joys of cycling.
