Lives!trong.com has a similar map feature I have been using. I am not a big fan of headwind either, and I really dislike it on the return part

I just uploaded some activity from my Garmin to ridewithgps and played around with both the ride analytics and play with some potential routes. I liked what I saw enough to sign up and make a donation (not huge, but something).

Thanks for the heads up on this.

Interesting because those are features that I felt were easier and more intuitive with the ridewithgps site. But what I really hated was the ads on the screen in mapmyride.

I will give ridewithgps a better look. It was about a year ago I clicked through it...just hitting the home page it is definitely more aesthetically pleasing.

Is this any different than Google bike routes?

mapmyride and ridewithgps are very different from Google maps.

When you place a point:
mapmyride and ridewithgps pick a route there. If you want to tweak the route, you have to undo the point and pick another intermediate point along the route you really prefer..

Google maps picks a route, too. But in bicycling mode, it frequently offers several options. each of which is easy to tweak by simply dragging and dropping a point from the suggested route to the preferred route. It then recalculates the route to include the preferred point

In Bicycling mode, Google maps picks the lowest traffic route, which, in rural areas is frequetly gravel. Google will also try to route over rail trails if one is available, and will avoid hills if possible. As of now mapmyride and ridewithgps do not consider any of those factors.

There are numerous other differences.

MapMyRide actually utilizes Google Maps within itself.
