I have better ways to use a dollar bill! Ok, fine, it does work if there's nothing else available, but that's why you need to be better prepared. With the Park Tire boot on the market who needs to use a dollar bill? And you can cut the Park boot to the size you need just make sure it's about 3 times larger then the hole you're covering. I used a boot once on a tire and rode on that tire for 3 months before the boot came unstuck, but I needed a new tire anyway so it was non issue. Even a discarded candy or powerbar wrapper will work.

Keep in mind the Gorilla Super Glue is only intended to seal small splits in the tire from the outside, a boot is intended to seal small to large splits from the inside. You can combine both which is what I do, but with small splits that don't penetrate all the way through the tire I don't bother with a boot, but putting the glue inside (actually the glue is on the outside of the tire and you fill the split with the glue) the crack keeps something else from hitting a weak area and penetrating the tire.

If you have four of them, you can buy a Park Tire Boot and be better prepared than I.

Sometimes I use a twenty.

I've put glue in superficial tire cuts and the glue caused punctures. YMMV.

You can also take an old tire and cut a 4" long piece cut the bead off and stash it inside your saddle bag to use as a boot.

If you get stuck with just bigger bills and have to use a $50, does that make it a high end tire???

You can use whatever you want as long as it gets you home. I knew a guy who destroyed his main and backup tube and stuffed his tire with green leaves he picked off a tree and from the ground around the tree! It got him home. But a dollar bill or a candy wrapper is not anywhere near as tough as a Park boot, and stuff can penetrate a dollar bill no matter how many time you fold it. And you don't use the entire boot on one cut, you cut the boot to about 3 times the size of the cut, twice the size works but I like to over do it. This usually means you can make about 2 or 3 repairs from a single boot, and Park includes 3 boots in the pack.

SuperGlue's reformulated formula will indeed produce shards, the original formula would not do that, and those shards could penetrate a tire cut...especially if it's just patched with a dollar bill, a shard of superglue won't penetrate a Park boot.

I've not going to buy tire boot material and I'm not putting glue on my tires.

I don't know when Suer Glue changed their formula but it was over twenty years ago when I tried it. Been there, done that. It doesn't work.

I've stuffed my tire with leaves too.

Do what you want to do. My tip is replace a tire as when it has a cut that goes all the way through. But you don't have to take my advice...

We're not saying to NOT replace a tire, most of this stuff is just emergency get me home remedies. Depending on the cut I will keep riding on it if it's minor. Now the cut shown on the tire earlier is way to large to save the tire, but a boot underneath and glue on top could get the rider home with that tire.

It wasn't quite 20 years ago that SuperGlue changed their formula, because I was using it up until the last 10 or 11 years and it worked fine prior to that time period. But I'm not going to bicker over this, it doesn't really matter when the formula was changed. What matters is if you have a tire problem out in nowhere land, do you want to ride home or walk? And using a boot, or a candy wrapper, or a dollar bill, along with some glue on the outside can get you home riding.

Using a dollar bill without some glue will work just as well.

Currency is made of much stronger stuff than candy wrappers. If a dollar bill is available, I'd advise using that rather than a candy wrapper. I carry money with me. I try not to carry stuff I don't need, such as boot material, scissors to cut the boot material, and glue (except for tire patch cement).

You can carry the kitchen sink with you so you can find a small puncture in your inner tube, but I prefer not to do so.
