Look road pedals. I've been using these same pedals for years and enjoy the comfort and control they give me. A nice firm platform for my feet and no problms clipping and unclipping. I'm a purist at heart and believe that road bike equipment is for the road and mtn bike equipment is for the trail.
I am using a set of Ritchey SPDS, which I am quite anxious to get rid of. I just have to decide which ones I want to put on. Any suggestions? I am not adverse to sticking with SPDs but I am looking at other options.
Cheers,
Brian J.

Hmmmm....I need more bikes.
I've found an increasing number of shoe makers are including the 2hole set up for SPD cleats. I don't know if all of Specailized's lineup has this included now. But a good number of them do.

Most of the major shoe manufacturers make both road and SPD shoes. You should have no trouble finding any to suit your riding style and budget. I have been using SPDs for the past 7 years and I have had no issues with them. I am due for new pedals and shoes for next season and have yet to decide if I am going to move over to road shoes and cleats. I do know that Specialized makes some nice shoes. The shop where I purchased my bike is a Specialized dealer and promised me a good deal on some shoes when I am ready to buy.
How are you liking your pedals dubgirl?
Cheers,
Brian J.

Hmmmm....I need more bikes.
I started using Speedplay road pedals many yrs ago until I learned that it was near impossible to get out in some circumstances, and that a few grains of sand in the wrong place would mean not clipping in without cleaning out the cleat spring.
Changed to double sided SPDs and have had 4 pairs of those pedals for my bikes over the yrs. Only complaint was an annoying squeak that pestered me for years and two pairs of shoes! Turned out to be the need for the lightest coat of grease applied just behind the cleat on the shoe sole where the heel of the petal rests. Problem gone at last. I'd est that 2/3 of rec riders use SPDs on road bikes. Just wish they'd make more models of recreational walkable shoes without aggressive sole lugs needed for running up trails.
I used SPD's back years ago with my MTB so when I bought a road bike... why change something you're familiar with. I've considered moving to road pedals, but the SPD's just work.
