I believe it. Does this business have a name? Is it in America?

The shop was a five minute ride from my house, and the beach was only another 15 minutes away, if you were slow. Good times.

Bike shop work

$18 and hour for a bike shop isn't bad. In the early 90's I worked part time in a shop here in Phoenix for straight commission, 25% of the day's gross. I had the shop to myself on the days I worked. I also took two weeks vacation each year from my day job to fill in for the owner while he went back east to visit family.

A very sweet deal that ended when the owner died and the new owners wanted to move in a different direction.

The deal with my wife was that the OT from my regular job, and the extra cash from the bike shop was my discretionary income. That came to $300+ each week.

You have an understanding wife. The money I made on the side was sometimes considerable. $1000 a day was not uncommon when I sold a few high end MTB's. Of course I had $50 days as well.

My wife said as many do, what's mine is mine and what's yours is mine too.

Mines a stay at home mother. I don't even have the house. I use the "guest" bathroom. I used to have a drawer that was mine but she recently "cleaned" it for me and through half of it away (it was mainly receipts, but they were my receipts!). She can have it though. She stays out of the Garage and that's the important part.

That was my ex. I figure she burned through about $85k of my savings. A few years ago, I got a $24k bonus check, and had to use $9k of it to pay off her credit card debt.

I've got a lot less money coming in now, but also much less going out.

"I used to have a drawer that was mine"

Man you had a drawer??!!

I don't even have a key to the front door. When I come home at night after work, I park my bike and let myself in the back with the "secret" key we keep out there for emergencies.
