My Tour De Yellow Bracelet ride was just over 100 miles. It was my first century that I have ever done by myself. I dedicated the ride to my dog, Tanner.
About four weeks ago, we found out that a lump on his lip that the vet originally though was a cyst was cancer. It had grown pretty fast in the week between the vet's original diagnosis and the follow-up. Our vet did not want to do the operation to remove it because of the location and how visible an area it is, being on his upper lip just below his nose. In other words, right on the front of his face.
We were referred to a specialist in Kansas City (about four hours from here) and got their earliest appointment. The surgeon there told us that it had to be cut out, instead of chemo. She said it would be no problem to cut far enough on each lateral side of the tumor, but was a little worried that she couldn't cut far enough on the upper side of it due to his nose being there.
Well, it's nearly three weeks later now. The surgery went well, his stitches are now out, and Saturday (the day of my ride) we got to take that plastic cone collar off of him finally. He's very happy not to be wearing that anymore. As of this point, the only required further course of action is to keep an eye on it.
