Great, I can quit worrying that something will happen to it on my watch

Per the original thread, the next in line is Fleeter.

I'm looking forward to your ride report.

Just got back from my ride. Instead of just doing one of my loops around the house I drove up to Damascus VA and did the upper part of the Virginia Creeper Trail. It is a rails to trails ride. The timber industry built a rail line and hauled timber out of the mountains for years. It was shut down in 1977. The governor fought hard to get the owners of the land to all agree to give the right of way to hikers, cyclists and horse riders. The railroad removed the tracks, lumber, and even the trestles. The cities of Damascus and Abingdon VA got the money to build bridges across the river at all spots between them. That left the crossings between White Top and Damascus, The National Forest Service used grants to build the bridges to complete the trail from White top all the way to Abingdon VA. The full trail was opened in 1988. The total trail is 34 miles long I rode half of it, 17 miles from White Top to Damascus most of it is downhill. The ride takes an average of 2.5 - 3 hours. I am proud to say I pulled it off in 1:58. That is including the time I spent at Glenn Cove learning about the trail and the history of Glenn Cove, so I wasn't lollygagging.

Here is me at White Top Getting ready to head down the trail.

Here is a shot down the trail. It is a good solid dirt track all the way down with numerous bridges and a few road crossings.

Here is one of the bridges.

Here is my ride at the Glenn cove Stop, it was an old general store that closed in 1979. When it was opened as a stop for the trail in 1988 it had the original stuff they sold in 79 on the shelves and it is still set up as a general store.

More of the trail.

The bracelet, taken while riding.

The Appalachian trail crosses the creeper trail twice this is one of them. I was surprised by it I didn't think they were even close to each other.

More trail pics.

This is about 1.5-2 miles from where I ended my ride.

The bracelet will be on its way to Xela tomorrow. Thanks for letting me be part of this. I enjoyed it.

On a side note when I added my initials I touched up the others as they were just about wore off.

You have to go up in order to come down. Why is the up part always so steep?

Got the bracelet yesterday. I took it on my 33 mile before work loop this morning. It was dark for 90% of the ride, so only one good pic. I was hoping for some good sunrise pictures, but cloud cover prevented that.

So, for reference, here's where it has been with me so far (blue route on map).

And here's the bracelet being lit up by the edge of my headlight beam.

I'm going to get a long ride in this weekend and will post more pictures after that.

My Tour De Yellow Bracelet ride was just over 100 miles. It was my first century that I have ever done by myself. I dedicated the ride to my dog, Tanner.

About four weeks ago, we found out that a lump on his lip that the vet originally though was a cyst was cancer. It had grown pretty fast in the week between the vet's original diagnosis and the follow-up. Our vet did not want to do the operation to remove it because of the location and how visible an area it is, being on his upper lip just below his nose. In other words, right on the front of his face.

We were referred to a specialist in Kansas City (about four hours from here) and got their earliest appointment. The surgeon there told us that it had to be cut out, instead of chemo. She said it would be no problem to cut far enough on each lateral side of the tumor, but was a little worried that she couldn't cut far enough on the upper side of it due to his nose being there.

Well, it's nearly three weeks later now. The surgery went well, his stitches are now out, and Saturday (the day of my ride) we got to take that plastic cone collar off of him finally. He's very happy not to be wearing that anymore. As of this point, the only required further course of action is to keep an eye on it.

So, here's some pics of the dog and the ride.

My route as mapped in ridewithgps.com

Here's Tanner just a few days after surgery and with me after the ride. You can still see on his right leg where they shaved it for the IV.

And here's some pictures from the ride.

So, today the bracelet is going to start its journey to New Zealand. Thanks for setting this up, Don, and for letting me participate. Cheers!
