Are Mongoose any good?

Are Mongoose MTBs any good? I don't know much about them but aren't they like a Walmart grade bike? I saw one on Craigs List real cheap and thought of getting it as a project bike.

I don't know the specs because no one ever gives specs on CL. I saw it had shocks up front as well as disc brake up front but not in back. $15, what the hell, right?

Pair of Bikes (Mongoose and Anza)

I've never seen that particular Mongoose, but what I can see of the parts pick (stanchion boots & rear-axle kickstand) suggest it's an x-mart special.

That said, even the crappiest thing you can buy to put under ya is worth $15. I'd get it if I was close enough.... Make a heckuva rigid SS project.

I've been on the hunt for a frame. I have a 24" Giant MTB that I was going to cannibalize the components off of and replace on a cheap frame and give it to my buddy. i want to get him on the trail and addicted.

Cycling karma. I got the Giant for free so I'm paying it forward.
