New to Forum and Mountain Biking

I live in the Sacramento area. I am looking for a good bike shop and Bike. I have done little reaseach and know enough I do not need a Gary Fisher type bicycle. I also know I don't want one from wal-mart either.

Need advice for a newbie bike that will share off and on road duties.

Thanks in advance

Scott

Welcome! I grew up in the sac area.

How much money are you planning on spending for this bike? That would be a good place to start.

Wellll, I have an update. We went to a couple of bike stores and ended up gettting Gary Fisher "Wahoo" bikes. We were looking at Treks but the Fishers had a couple of upgrades on them.
