The wait is over. He's a pic of my new mountain bike ride. After leaving the LBS, I stopped at a local State Park that has several riding paths along the lake. The one I took was an easy 3 1/2 mile loop. Had to re-wire my brain to use the 'thumb' only SRAM shifters, but that turned out to pretty simple to get the hang of.
It's the first time I've thrown a leg over a 29er and I have to say that I loved it. You might notice that it's not the Trek Cobia that I intended to buy. The shop made me a deal on the X-Cal that I just couldn't turn down. It has the next level of components (X7), better front fork and brakes and better wheels. It's about 3 1/2 lbs lighter than the Cobia which sealed the deal for me. 26 1/2 lbs vs 30lbs. The stock tires don't do much for me and will probably be the first thing to go. I'm going to try to like the weird handlebars (they angle back slightly), we'll just have to see about them. It might grow on me. The grips are a little too weenie and those will probably go too. Otherwise I'm off the charts happy with it.
Now if it would just quit raining. Save a little for summer
