I agree with vassago. I had brakes on my bmx bike for a bout a week after I went to a freewheel. It was back when a poor kid couldn't afford the gyro. Luckily I made my own money and replaced my own shoes as necessary but I rode my bmx for 3-4 years with no brakes. It was weird when I went to a mtb that had front and rear brakes. Still hardly ever used them. That was back in the 80's when all the cool stuff was just coming out.

You have to go up in order to come down. Why is the up part always so steep?

its your choice but a bike with a break will be safer... even a pro biker needs a break sometimes....

i started riding no brakes when i was 14. mostly due to the fact i didnt have money to keep my bike tuned to a T. and like everyone said, it just got in the way. and in todays modern age where kids are drilling holes just so shave off a few ounces you can eliminate almost of pound of dead weight. after years of using your feet to stop you it just becomes second nature. only downside is you go through shoes allot
