we started putting the gt back together after stripping it down to repaint and pack the bearings.

here is how it was when i got it back from the guy who stole it and painted it red

ok, got a little more done this evening. i actually worked some on my hybrid conversion, the wife's huffy mountain bike, and the GT.

here is the GT now:



the last things, the grips, are in jason's stocking as a surprise. all that is left, besides the grips, is to outline the GT emblems on the frame with silver and fill in the silver with black and then paint the GT on the front where the sticker normally goes. i might try and locate some proper pads too but i have to think about that. oh ya, i have to put new tires and inner tubes on it. these are very old and slowly lose air over two days so i will get some white or blue tires to final this thing up

Pads are ok if you're displaying the bike, but not so much for riding. In my opinion. Oh, it looks sweet!

i only rode a test track, never tried racing. our bmx was the fields around the house. all the neighborhood kids would get out with shovels and dig our track and build jumps and berms and everything each year after the city came through and did its annual leveling of our track.

that is why i cannot decide on the pads. i never used them either but they look good on a restored classic. oh well, this one will be used so they will probably not make it on

I was about 35 when my friend took me to see our local BMX track in Australia, where they held the Worlds. Pretty sure I had a race bike by the end of that week.

We had this area in my hometown like that . It butted up to an old abandon'd railroad track. It was called "Devil's Tracks" I bent many of rims in that little area. My Rigid GT MTB got quite a beating. Then some A'Hole out of town kid came in and dug up all of the jumps and put pits between the jumps. It totally ruined the place. Once I get me a bike rack I'm taking the bike home sometime and seeing if the place still exists. I've heard that someone leveled it years ago but i'll find out when I go home this weekend. Might have to go do some exploring.
