I started on a HUFFY Street Hawk from Autozone. Lol. Back then BMX was hot and everyone was selling bikes. This was around the time of Rad. Then I broke my foot on it when I was about 11. It was a freak accident. But I was done. I picked up a skateboard and skated until I was 21. After several broken bones and two knee surgeries I decided it was time to let that go. Then my neighbor had a 1996 GT Comp pro. In chrome it was Beatiful. He lent that to me for a few days. I then went to bike shop and purchased a 2000 model GT Pro Tour 2 in chrome. It was like riding on a tank. But it looked so good. So I got into street riding but quickly realized that I was damaging other people's property by grinding and such. That month sometime later I ran into a kid who would become one of my best friends. He was doing flatland (freestyle) tricks and it was so amazing. I hadn't been that amazed since the first time I saw skateboarding. So I started practicing and learning the basic moves. It's more like martial arts then aggressive riding like jumping or grinding. You have to be very relaxed and patient. I've been hooked ever since. I competed for a while and then that got stupid. It become a who knows who on the judging panel. So i quit riding and got into racing cars. That lasted for about 4 years. Stayed working in the industry for another 5 years. Just stressed out. So I quit walked away. Dug out my bike outa my closet. My bikes stay in my house. Redone it so many times (frames alone-Quamen, Quamen G4, Ares, fly, two Sick Child Baddablings, KHE, Quamen Gamma 3, a few street frames, S&M Intrakit, and finally now a Zion Focus) that I've lost count. I love flatland bmx. YouTube it. I still ride and in fact it got me a job as a bike tech. Just built a fixed gear which I hated and traded it for my first road bike. I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival. But right now my bmx us set up with no brakes and a 20/12 gear ratio. So I'm not really riding it any where except to work until my felt road bike arrives. It's strictly a trick bike. But they are so much fun. Check out flatlandfuel.com some time and check it out. I live in Dallas/Ft. Worth Tx and we have a large group of older cats that still ride flat on 20" bmxes.
