To carry a couple hundred rounds of 5.56, a 9mm with a few spare 18 round mags, some shotgun shells, and assorted other gear.

So you're not a police officer or a member of a swat team? Is the vest actual police issue? If it is how did you manage to purchase it? Things that are police issue are only able to be purchased by police officers or their department. In my city there is a store that will not sell to anyone who cannot prove they are law enforcement. They strictly sell to law enforcement officers only. It is illegal for anyone to have a official police issue gear, such as uniforms, swat vests, etc.

Anyone can go to their local gun store and buy a tactical vest. The Police or SWAT patches are just held on by velcro, and I'm pretty sure they're department-issued or ordered through some LEO vendor. Quite different than a uniform.

As far as other gear, my rifle has a military issue BUIS, which nearly anyone can buy as well. Many of my magazines are stamped LEO, but more importantly, a bunch of them have the SWAT trainer's name written on them with a Sharpie. When I asked about that, he said those guys will steal just about anything. He was joking of course, but I found it funny that even the most elite of our local officers have to keep an eye on their gear.

Just because something is illegal in your jurisdiction, doesn't mean it is illegal in mine. For instance, anyone who can legally own a gun, has $9k (plus another $200 for your tax stamp) can be doing this in Utah:

[edit] if you have REALLY deep pockets, you could go all out with this.

In my area what people call a swat vest is a swat style or tactical style vest. Not the actual official police issue swat vest. For one the swat vests also serve as the bullet "proof" or resistant vest with the kevlar and steel plate that covers the heart area of the chest. Even if anyone can order one from a magazine or catalog, online, etc. that does not make it legal to own in what ever jurisdiction people live in. For example anyone can order marijuana seeds online to grow their own plants. That does not make it legal to do so.

Body armor is a separate issue, but I can buy that too. It generally goes under the vest or uniform. It doesn't make sense to me that it would be part of the vest. I read some silly law about prohibiting felons from owning body armor, but it's legal for non-LEO to own.

I would have no need to wear armor when shooting for sport, so it's not an issue for me.

In Texas you can buy anything with the proper permit. Except knives, unless your in a costume. Then you can wield a sword. I wish I was kidding.

I got my wife to admit that the micro Uzi was cute. An unholy 1200 rds/min cycle rate! All that for only $10k.

Yikes. Music while riding to buying guns, that was fast.

I agree, no music while riding. I find riding to be peaceful and music to jargon that up anyways.
