I'm wondering who uses them. I always do especially after my wreck, but my friend that I rode with does not then laughed at me for looking like an idiot.

Well he's the one going to be an idiot when he crashes and gets brain damage. Of course I use one, and it is a requirement for many group rides. It is just the smart thing to do.

Absolutely. Always. I had a friend nearly get a concussion in his driveway. So, I never leave home without it.

He was riding out of the garage. Clipped in the pedal. He had trouble unclipping as he was stopping, and just fell over. When his shoulder hit, it snapped his neck over and his head hit pretty hard.

Al Wong was riding his BMX in a parking complex, when a car backed into him and knocked him to the ground. Very minor impact between the car and bike.

[edit] I guess I should have pointed out that it was Al's head hitting the concrete that led to his passing the day after his 18th birthday.
