I mean science, but it's cool. A hat will help prevent lacerations, so a helmet would in theory help to further prevent lacerations. It seems like common sense to me.

Definitely not. Common sense very often gets in the way.

You're probably right, I'd just have to take my chances.

That's great, I'm all for people making their own decisions and doing what they want. I just won't accept "they don't work". That's not a reason. I mean it is, it's just not a good one. It seems Spokesman, that you are not telling yourself they don't work, only that you don't like them. Cool, no issues there.

I've read both pro & contra regarding helmets, and I just decided to continue my helmetless riding.
As I wrote earlier, I do think they look smart, they go well with a road bike and spandex but as I have neither... Besides, I look repulsive in spandex.

Well go ahead and be the dork in a coma or drooling on youself
So wearing a kelvar helmet in combat is dorky too, but wait until you see your buddy take one in the head and live! Same concept!
I pray that you have good health insurance so we are not paying for your medical bills. Your so outspoken on the topic, so I can play that way too!

Helmets are not magic, life-saving fairy dust. But they can and do prevent certain types of injuries from being life-changing, rather than merely an inconvenience.
Here's one for the mathematically inclined. Let's say that given the amount of riding you do, you're pretty much assured that over a span of 50 years, you'll have an accident with injuries that can be mitigated by a helmet. Might be next week, could be 49 years from now. Odds are good that it will happen. What's your logic for not wearing a helmet?
Now, what if I told you that you were guaranteed to win the lottery in your lifetime? I can't tell you whether it will be the Powerball jackpot, or just a couple hundred grand. But it will happen some time within the next 50 years. Might be next week, or you might be retired. It could be enough to pay off your mortgage and live a bit more comfortably, or it could be a life-changing amount. Are you going to spend a buck a week on a ticket, knowing that one day it will pay off, but not knowing by how much?

During your wreck did you suffer an impact to the head? If you did how bad was the injury? Do you have photos? If you do show them to your friend. There are also photos, some pretty graphic shoing what can happen if someone does not wear a helemt while riding bike. Sometimes the shock and awe effect is a useful tool to convince someone to change their behavior.
