Better to look like an idiot, than to remove all doubt by suffering irrepairable brain damage, wear a helmet.

I remember Lance mentioning that they did those clips at low speed after a few of us got on him about that. Still not a good excuse from some of the earlier examples.

I loudly mention to anyone riding without a helmet that they are an organ donor.

My two cracked helmets and my relative sanity and coherence speak for themselve to the fact that both times the helmets saved me from drooling vegetativeness.

Do you wear a helmet while in an auto? For time exposed, you are 17 times more likely to suffer a head injury in a motor vehicle than on your bicycle. 17 TIMES!!

In today's Boston Herald (Dec. 1) there is an article about head injury up 170% in the last several years around hot tubs. Slip and fall stuff. I mentioned in earlier posts that I see far more head injuries at my hospital on account of tub and pool falls than bike accidents. Why do you dwell on bicycles when the real danger is water and cars?

Do you have stats on those who used anti slip mats? Probably not but there is safety prevention for both things you mentioned.

Cars with anti-slip mats?

Everyone always ignores cars and helmets. Why is this?

Interesting discussion in Wikipedia Bicycle helmet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia replicates much of what has been said on both sides of the haggle.

I've been wearing a helmet bicycling, motorcycling, downhill skiing and a lampshade at parties. Now I'm wearing a helmet when I drive my hot tub to town, a bag over my head when the Pats play New Orleans. and when I log in to this thread.

Helmet use while online is the smartest use of such headwear yet offered. I applaud you.

I downhill ski sans helmet. XC ski (skater style) at 15mph through woodlands and don't wear a helmet. (no XCer does) Surf offshore without a helmet and ride my bike without same. Of all those activities, biking is by far the safest. It's not even close. Cycling is not a dangerous event. You will be pleased to note that I wear a seatbelt and own a car with airbags. But I stop at the helmet while driving even though driving is the most dangerous activity modern man involves himself in. It is of a danger far beyond all others combined but nobody wears a helmet driving and nobody on a bike forum even dares to touch that subject.

"You, there. Wear your helmet on that bike," they scream. But then they get in their cars and drive away unhelmeted. What a bunch of hypocrites.

The BMJ discussions bmj.com Rapid Responses for Robinson, 332 (7543) 722-725 support our own headless forum-man and suggests rotational damage and the higher mass and size of a helmeted head make it more injury prone.

But it is worth the risk because a. everyone else does b. I look good in a helmet c. I'm protecting the rest of the world from my brains.
