Sidewalks

Does everyone here typically ride on sidewalks when bicycling or do you just bike on the road with the cars and obey the traffic laws?

A little of both. Mostly I stick to the roads, but in certain instances, the sidewalk is a better choice.

on the road and obeying the laws. 15+ mph on a sidewalk is asking for flat tires, messed up wheels, and a really good chance at going over the handlebars. While riding on sidewalks you are a danger to pedestrians, plus drivers are less likely to notice cyclists on sidewalks which makes intersections and driveways extremely dangerous.

Mostly road but I will hit the sidewalk when it's the safer option.

There are some streets in this town that are 'ride at your own risk' deadly, so I'll take the sidewalk for them. It has the added bonus that only about 50 people walk anywhere here, and 5 of them live with ME.

Road only. Too many chances for an accident on the sidewalk.

Re: Sidewalks

Only on the sidewalk when it is part of a trail or absolutely necessary. Is perfectly legal in Indy provided you yield to pedestrians. In Indiana, is a city-by-city ordinance.
