What would you do?

What would you do if you were trail riding and the trail came right along the edge of a cliff with a 20 foot drop to a creek below, you stopped to look at the scenery there and another rider comes blazing along, doesn't know your there, and goes flying over the edge... do you carry a first aid kit or phone?

Did this actually happen to you?

I normally do not carry a first aid kit unless I'm leading a group ride or riding/racing back country trails then I carry at least first aid and sometimes a phone too. I also carry an epi pen and benadryl which I actually had to use on a guy a couple of years ago. He was going into anaphylactic shock from a yellow jacket sting. I found him on the side of the trail in the fetal position. That was the first race I had ever carried an epi pen lucky for him.

This happened to someone on a trail I used to ride at, the people were getting really silly with the design to the point that the part where you go down a ravine was at such an angle to make you go careening into your gooseneck collarbone first... and there was a part where the edge went right next to a cliff around a turn

I always carry a phone incase a phonecall needs to be made and will only ride the easy trails with lots of traffic by myself. Never carried a first aid kit, but could make a turnekit(sp) out of a tube pretty quick.lol.

What's an epi Pen?

Epi pen is a single use autoinjector of epinephrine (adrenaline), used to treat anaphylactic shock.

I hope the rider didn't bail into the creek because you were blocking the trail to look at the scenery...

Some of us in our group are first-aid trained, and we all carry phones over here.
Have a small first-aid kit in the shuttle vehicle, but it's usually not gotten into as the local hospital (with hotty nurses) is very close to our local hill.
We'd rather visit the nurses than get into the band-aid box...

I carry a small first aid kit with me, nothing to do anything major but I could do a good cleaning on a wound if necessary. I also have my phone.

I always carry my cell phone on me for emergencies. I don't like to be out of touch out on a trail. Cell phones are so little and light these days, it's not really hard to carry them in your pocket or a backpack.

DUH!! Yes, how many chances does a regular guy like me get to touch someone else's spine sticking out of their back. Yep I would touch it then drag out my cell phone to get pictures. I would then drag out my trusty wad of duct tape and tape them up so the bleeding would stop. After I got the bleeding stopped I would take some more pics. Then call someone to meet them at the end of the trail to take them to the hospital. Then I would laugh at them for wrecking and tell them to suck it up and finish the ride.

Seriously though, I always have my phone and hopefully would have a signal and be able to get GPS coordinates for the rescuers. My clothes and bike repair parts could be used as bandages and tourniquet as needed until help could get there. I would touch the spine though.

You have to go up in order to come down. Why is the up part always so steep?
