Yeah, be on the lookout for litigation papers in the mail. Especially if you scratched the car.

Glad it wasn't worse, and I admire how you handled it.

Nah, no damage to her car at all, wheel seems okay, maybe, just maybe a bit out of true, and if it is, it seems negligible. Like I said, it was super low speed because I had a feeling it was going to happen.

I think this whole new "graduated/tiered" licensing system is great, but jeezus, they need to drill in to these kids' heads that they can do a lot of harm to a lot of people for not making good decisions.

I get teenagers are stupid due to feeling invincible, unable to understand long term consequences, etc. I do, I really do. But why is it so easy to get a license? I just don't get it. Want a good read? Do some looking up on what you need to do to get a motorcycle license in England.

Might be interesting if one had to 'graduate' to a car, license-wise. You first ride a bicycle x miles, then go to a motorcycle before you ever get to sit behind the wheel of a cage.

I was stunned at how vulnerable I felt the first few times I rode a motorcycle on the street. I looked out for motorcyclists while driving a lot more after that. Ditto for bicycles, once I started getting out on the street on mine. I don't believe I was a danger to cyclists before that, but I was much less conscious of their presence.

You can't really understand what it's like until you've done it. We'd be a lot better off as cyclists if more cagers understood in their gut what it's like to be on the road without a cage.

Great post, newleaf! I never realized how stupid drivers can be until I rode a motorcycle.

I went on a shop group ride this morning for the first time. I got there early because I wanted to make sure there wasn't anything that I needed to know. Waiting for all of the riders to show up, I got the displeasure of listening to the shop owner on the phone about his mechanic being in the hospital because he was hit by a car this morning. Ugh, I wish people would be more careful and considerate.
