Hybrid Bike

Someone told me the other day of a hybrid bike that once you get it above a certain speed the motor kicks in and also charges through solar power or something... anyone heard of this?

I'm unaware of any solar charging e-bikes except the concept vehicle seen here.

A google search for "e-bikes" "electric assist bikes" or "hub motors" should yield plenty of results about commercially available units.

There are several different "hybrid" type bikes that come from the factory with electric hub motors and rechargeable battery packs. If you are interested in going this route and do not want to purchase a whole new bike, you can also purchase kits that are just the new wheel, throttle, batteries, and chargers to convert your own bike at home. These types of bikes are known as "electric assist" because you do still need to be pedaling most of the time to keep up your momentum but the motors help assist you especially with climbing hills.

I hope this helps answer your question.
