Chamois cream. Stay hydrated, cliff bars, apricots, cytomax. How long have you been riding previously? Make sure you drink plenty of water during the week as well so you are adequately hydrated. Sunscreen too!

On our 50-60 mile rides we just have a good breakfast-for me that is protein, like ham and cheese, and maybe egg on a tortilla. For others it is oatmeal. I usually drink 2 bottles of cytomax, and 2 of water. Then maybe a cliff bar. When we get home, I need protein! A good hamburger does me fine. Have fun!

It's a fun ride. Are you taking the Frontage road or back roads?

Apricots are a good snack with potassium, easier than eating bananas in your shirt pocket.

re: Advice on Long Distance Bicycle Ride

Bananas are bad, but apricots have a bit too much fiber for some folks. They can stir things into action.

And the sulphur in dried apricots can be bad.

It's always best to experiment with new foods when you're not riding.

re: Advice on Long Distance Bicycle Ride

Really? Interesting. A lot of the members on our cycling team use the apricots on long rides, but of course they have been riding for several years, and knows what works for them.

re: Advice on Long Distance Bicycle Ride

I have a sulphur allergy, but they're also a gentle laxative for a lot of people.
