If you mean with actual numbers state to state, yes it is difficult to account for. That is why they use an average. The $0.62 per mile average likely includes all the state figures when it comes to fees and taxes combined and averaged. The key thing here is it is an average, not an actual number. The $0.62 per mile average also likely includes the cost of ownership from the person who never takes care of his vehicle and has a heavy foot to the person who does regular maintenance and drives with common sense. I think it also inlcudes the cost of the most expensive dealer cost to the lowest. The same for the highest insurance rates to the lowest. Again it is an average.

I have no idea what my actual average is for my Jeep, driving it in my area. I am not about to take the time to figure it out. Besides I would have had to start on Jan. 1, here we are at March 11. I am not going to wait until Jan. 1, 2011.

As I stated the average cost of $0.62 per mile will have to be good enough for everyone else reading this and you will have to accept it. It is good enough for me. I don't know why certain people can not accept the fact I am using this as an average.

It's not at all difficult to come up with a reasonably accurate estimate of your own costs.

While I could figure out actual average cost of insurance, tires and a few other things the figure would not be very accurate and in fact less accurate than the average of $0.62 I am using.

Why?

A lot of the maintenance and fuel costs. Let me explain.

I would have to go back through 3 years worth of credit card, debit card and checking account history to try and figure it out. A lot of the records have been destroyed because the accounts are now closed. While we fill up the gas tank every week to week and a half I am not going to try and make a guess at the cost of fuel or maintenance over the past 3 years unless I can easily find the info. to figure the average cost.

For now I will use the $0.62 a mile average. I've got a pretty good feeling if I were to go through all of my records to figure out the averag cost per mile I would be pretty close to the $0.62 a mile.

Well there's a big can of worms. Filling up every week to week and a half? Either your fuel economy is much worse than you claim, or you're driving a lot more miles than you claim. If you're gassing up that regularly, don't you have some idea of what a tank of gas costs you, along with how many miles you've driven on that last tank? I pay roughly $26-$28 every 300 miles.

And I forgot that since you have a Jeep, you have all those extra maintenance costs associated with owning your American made bloat wagon. In the 4 years since I purchased my car, I've had oil changes, a K&N million mile air cleaner, and some new tires. I don't count the 55/100W bulbs or TRD suspension components, as they were only $200, and not a necessity.
