IH, so you have 3 motor vehicles. Granted they get better fuel mileage than most but you still have 3. I only have one. My wife and I tried owning 2 at one time, too much of a headache, cost, etc. We went back to one. Somehow regardless of job location, hours, shift, etc. we have always made it work.

Again, I don't see your point. When the weather cooperates, I don't drive my 30+ MPG car, but instead ride my 40+ MPG motorcycle. What's the problem?

Owning bloated, gas guzzling SUVs would be expensive and cause headaches. But that's a choice you've made. I'll readily admit that there was a time when I was single that I owned three vehicles - an economy car for commuting, a nicer vehicle for work and road trips, and a 4WD for playing.

Do you ever ride a bicycle? Maybe I missed something but it almost looks like a blind man giving fashion advice. I don't own a car right now but I can see were there are some jobs that can't be done without one. If so how many mile a week do you put in? With the weather here and my schedule I have cut back on my riding.

Maybe industry's a secret spy, and he never really rides a bike, and (worst of all) he works for walmart... this thread is stupid.

As a matter of clarification my Jeep Compass is not an SUV and it is not 4WD. It isn't even rated for off road use. It is a decent street vehicle with AWD. The Compass is pretty much the same as the Dodge Caliber. They use the same chassis and engine. Everything is the same except the body design.

IH, why not ride your 1,000 mpg bicycle instead of drive your 40 mpg motorcycle?

This whole thread comes down to one single thing. One single thing would solve and end it. OK, boys, line up and whip your #%$@s out and lets see who's got the biggest cause that's all this thread has boiled down to. Who rides more, who drives more, who's greener, who's carbon footprint is smaller?

The real question should be, "Who effing cares?".

Ok I take it back, kind of

What I was seeing on this tread had more to do with cars than bikes and the Joys of huge displacement motors and the inadequacy of smaller displacement motors. Was I wrong to point this out?

I live in a suburb of one of the bike friendliest city I know (Portland OR) and out here in this part of Beaverton hardly anybody rides a bike. on a good day I might see a dozen people. The bike lanes are always empty and the roads are jammed with SUV with one person each. I feel safer riding in the center of downtown than I do on a bike lane in Beaverton.

Aren't you the guy who was worried about putting Firestones on his vintage bike? To answer your question, I doubt that I managed to put in even 200 miles since late November. I don't track mileage on my indoor trainer either.

Oh, that's so much better. Instead of having a transfer case to put into 2WD, you turn all four wheels, all the time, even through the middle of a hot, dry summer. I doubt you get 20MPG.

Only wrong in the sense that it shows you haven't actually read the thread.

IH, doesn't the scion do the same thing? I have driven it long enough to know by feel when it engages all 4 wheels, just 2 or only has power to 3 when cornerning. It does have the option to lock it in 4WD full time, but we hardly use it. Only used that once or twice this winter.

IH, why are you so frustrated at what I drive? I at least only have one vehicle whereas you have 3. Please don't say your 3 combined get better fuel mileage than my one.
