Interesting article, great bikes! It's funny to me that someone would name a company 'Shinola'. Makes me think of an old-school personal insult. Nice looking bike, though!

It's cool to see guys that I have met showcased on CNN. But I think Shinola is a great name. It's known as the opposite of, you know.

I'd like to test some of them to see how they stack up against a "utilitarian" commuter, i.e. hybrid/mtb that's been morphed into a commuter rather than ot of the box "designed" for commuting.

There's a nice 33.9% downhill I would LOVE to try a bakfiets on, but I have to update my will first.

Nothing against single speeds but they'd be useless for commuting here in Co. Springs, too many HILLS!!! I also don't see any real advantages of these multi-thousand dollar machines over a nice 400 to 1000 dollar hybrid seems a bit too much Chic and not enough utility, jmho.

Cool article but why was the $5000 Delorian on the list? At the price of a used car it didn't seem to be anything terribly "commuter specific"? I wouldln't mind one of those dutch utility bikes that look like a wheelbarrow and a bicycle had an unholy love child though. Simply for the novelty of it.
