Has anyone done a tour from California up to Washington before?

Dean when i was planning my pacific coast ride i spoke with a lot of folks and they warned me of the lack of bike lanes going north and said the prevailing winds typically blow north to south. i even spoke with a gentlman who rode north and said the wind was so bad that he would never do it that direction again he claimed to have a headwind ever day of his tour...something to think about...

I agree --- north to south (due to both winds and shoulders) also.... September is the month with the best weather.

Re winds: Yes, there's a reason it's Seattle to Portland ride and not vice versa every year.

A late reply, but there is a book by a LA Times reporter who did a VA to CA tour, motels every night. He was in mid 50s too. I forget the name and the book title.
