LOL, this was a trip back!
My earlier post described a "severe ankle sprain"; I later discovered (no fault of the healthcare provider, I saw the x-rays) that the ankle had BROKEN!
Boy, did I get a 'superman' reputation for going to work with a broken ankle for two months!

I bike for the fun of it and take my scooter other days because well that's fun too. The Bike fun is not worth the shower and getting ready at work if I cannot get a decent ride in on the way there so it all comes down to sleep. I get to sleep almost and extra hour if I take the scooter so when I get to bed determines my mode of transport. It's southern California so I cannot really imagine a weather event (other then high winds possibly) that would make biking undesirable.

I like to bike commute because it gets my workout in without setting time aside for it. It just gets built into my day. I am controlling type 2 diabetes with diet and exercise so exercise is a little more important to my long term health than it may be for others. Commute or not, I have to get in a workout.
I get up at the same time whether I bike commute or not so, on days when I don't bike commute, I ride my road bike in a trainer for the same amount of time as my commute. Hey, I'm up anyway so why not? In those evenings, I do high intensity intervals for the same amount of time when I get home.
Okay, so what keeps my bike at home? Ice and wind. The only way to get to work involves a busy 55 mph highway. There is no way to avoid it. If it's icy, it is just stupid to be on a bike on this road. Cold doesn't bother me...I just dress appropriately but if we have sustained winds over 20 mph, it just isn't any fun. I decided to give it a try this past January in a 20 - 30 mph headwind. It just sucked.

not much...... temperature doesn't seem to have any affect anymore. Rain is no problem, wind no big deal.... deep snow on the roads is still difficult though, although mtb tires will get you through it. I think its the ultimate commute, although I don't commute.... I just ride all the time. Last week I did a 96 miles and it was 34 degrees F.

For me I can deal with the cold... so far have ridden down to 22 degrees, the rain is a different story...as stated earlier drivers are already distracted enough adding the rain just makes it too dangerous for me so I pull out my Jeep Wrangler and drive. So far I've even "over slept" until the rain ended and rode twice now in just a mere 5 months.

I'm in Florida, yet I've ridding in under all three of our last freezes. Nine mile commute with a shower waiting so that's not too bad.
Two things will keep me from riding...
1) Model train club night (all the way across town, and I stay there until 11pm, so thats out.
2) Rain. Sorry, I'll ride home in rain all the time; in Florida, half or more of our summer afternoons are drenchers. No worries. But I'll skip riding out if its raining in the morning - too dark, too slick. No thanks.
