I ride a Catrike Road. I purchased a new mountain bike in the spring of 2007. We then had one of the rainiest years on record so it got ridden very little. The following spring, I bought my son a KMX Cyclone. It is a 7-speed recumbent trike for his 12th birthday. He had never learned to ride a bike and was adamant that he was never going to do so. The trike for him was a desperation move - we just wanted SOME way to ride as a family (he also refused to try a trail-a-bike). He loved the trike and began riding with us. He insisted I try his trike and, much to my surprise, I was hooked. After a few weeks, I sold my bike and ordered a trike for myself. Three weeks ago, I upgraded my son to a Catrike Pocket. My husband still frets that he will never ride a "real" bike but I think that is a choice he can make for himself. In the mean time, anything that gets a kid off the video games and out riding is a good thing. Recumbents, either bike or trike, are fun, comfortable, and just as much exercise as a regular bike. It may look like a "lazy-boy on wheels" but it is far from it.

Hmmm If I am grabbing my crotch it is to make a not kind gesture to you sir....

to say all regular bike riders have issues with Neck / hand/ back or crotch is a BIG generalization and FALSE.

If you bike is fitted properly you should not have any of those. I have ridden many long distance rides including coast to coast (3,791 miles) and recently Seattle to SanDiego (1,649 miles) with NO discomfort.

I am glad you like your recumbent... BUT do not try to disparage other cyclist or types of bikes.

I ride mountain Bike -- Specialized S Works Epic
Road Bike --- Custom Built Ti-cycle Hyack
Touring Bike ---Specialized Roubaix Pro
Tandem --- Co-Motion Speedster Co-pilot

And have NO issues with comfort on any of them... and try to dispel the bickering between Mt/ Road Road/ Touring Touring/ Road Tandem/ Single

We are all on bicycles ---wind in the face is GOOD

Play nice and do not throw stones...

I think you should check this article out from Web MD:

Bicycle-Riding Men Beware

So you may think you are not having problems, but wait till down the road. They can put as many stupid holes in your DF bikes as you like, but he damage is occuring, ride after ride....

Agreed. The best bike is the one YOU choose to ride. Not everyone has problems riding a road or mountain bike. Not all recumbent riders are overweight, bearded, past middle-age men. Not all men become sterile from riding bike saddles. Not all recumbent riders are "sandal-wearing, old hippies". Have I missed any of the stereotypes? Being proud of what you ride doesn't mean you have to be insulting or condescending to others because they choose to ride something different.

New bent rider here..... Getting my V3 dialed in and set up properly, in between the winter rains here. 50+, just turned. Beard, yes. Aero-belly, almost gone.

Another bent rider here. I just joined and uploaded pics of my stable to the recumbent database. I guess you could say I'm a stereotype-smasher, because I don't have a beard or an aerobelly, and I ride 'faster-than-most'. OTOH, I am 50+, but that's the one factor I can't do anything about.

My wife and I both ride Sun EZ-3 USX trikes (heavy....Yes 65 LB's). We like them enough to take them with us in our 5th wheel when we go to Arizona for the winter. She has had a hip replaced and major back surgery and she maintains a steady 6 to 8 mph and I maintain a steady 12 to 15 mph on flat ground. Down hill I have had it at 33mph with out any problems. The last to years in October I have ridden in an organized 15 mile ride. I don't arrive at the finish line first but I do finish with a grin on my face.
