Perfect size for all recumbents.

I had to say it.

Some of the fast greenspeed trikes are running 16" wheels as well. Smaller wheels do accelerate faster. I notice this effect on my Raptobike with 406 (20") drive wheel all the time. I was very surprised at the road race I did in May, I was way out ahead of the pack at first due to my acceleration. The same thing happened during the STP at every light, I rocketed ahead of all of the DFs at lights.

I also don't think you get the point, a trike doesn't have to clip in quickly. The trike rider just never unclips. He is ready to go, bang.

I understand the dynamic at work, Duncan. But glorified baby strollers are still slower off the mark than a good kid on a BMX. Next time you are out riding and happen upon a BMXer, call the lad over and explain our dilemma. No self-respecting kid is going to pass on this kind of test.

I know I can crush your trike with my road bike and my little brother eats me up on his BMX.

Give it a whirl sometime if you can round up a willing and youthful assassin.

Just so you chaps appreciate that the UK TT scene is not really.. represented by characters in this discussion... I felt obliged to register to 'thank' IanHighfield for such an amusing bit of banter.

To me it does mainly seem fictional (I must have missed the bit where recumbents are allowed to enter in UK TT's - it is actually specifically banned because they were too fast) but what's the internet for if not a bit of baiting?

Much as I wish I was faster on my TT bike than a recumbent, you only have to look at the hour record (34 miles for us, 55 miles for them) to see that it's pure wishful thinking. The few recumbents I've seen appear to be ridden by older guys with health trouble, so you're comparing me (350W) with them (50W?) it's bound to be a bit of a wash.

Anyway, enjoy yourself Ian... just remember that you're not the only triallist online, and the rest of us might be getting a little embarrased by your wishful thinking!

Scotty, the 55 miles is with a fairing. Do we have to go over this again with you?

Only if I can use a Claymore.

Honestly, the speed fight has gone out of me. I've run out of material. Nobody wants to hear old jokes. All my best stuff is back on file. Go read that crap if you are new and have nothing else to do.

I've pretty much given up because there is no way convincing Ion the true possible top speed of a stock racing recumbent. Until he gets passed by one like he's standing still, he can keep his belief's. I guess what he doesnt know can't hurt him..... I'll never go to England and he'll never come here, so who cares'. Around here pretty much every cyclist knows that they are no match for a strong rider on a lowracer.

It's a new year. We'll make it your year. Recumbents are the fastest vehicles on the face of the earth. There, I said it.

lowracer1, at least you still have the spirit to fight back. Can't say that for your mate who shall remain nameless but seems to have his pants (not his pedals) on fire. What a humorless slug.
