How many people have built this bike for there "girl" or "woman"? Ive seen like 10 or so different people claim this build on different forums and blog/websites. is it a production bike? I think it's demeaning to women no wonder they all say the misses won't ride it.

Built: 70's Bridgestone Kabuki Mixte for the Mrs.

Home grown

I built my single from a Masi frame. Bought parts online and from LBS, several brands. Picture is posted in single speed gallery, have not mastered posting in this area.

I can assure you that I am the original builder* of this bike**. I post on several forums (always using this screen name) but I'd be curious if you have links to other people claiming it is their bike/build.

*I didn't build the frame, just assembled the bike as you see it in those pictures.

**The reason it's called the TaCoCycle is because my wifes first and last name begin with 'Ta' and 'Co' so I call her TaCo as a pet name.

I didn't build the frame, it began life as a late 70's Bridgestone Kabuki 10 speed. It belonged to a freind who was going to trash it when she was moving from an apartment. The bike was in pretty bad shape from a cosmetic perspective and the components were all pretty beat up.

I stripped the frame in my garage, added a couple coats of pepto bismol pink and started adding components. IRO Cranks, Shimano BB, cheapo eBay wheels, Cheapo northroad handlebars, and I tweaked the front reflector mount to hold the bottle cage.

I don't think I've ever referred to my wife as 'girl' or 'woman' usually I refer to her on the interwebs as Mrs. Handsomeryan.

Knowing that TaCo is her pet name makes the bike a lot less "demeaning to women" it's supposed to be a joke that people who know my wife (or what I call her) would understand. She didn't refuse to ride it because it was offensive, she refused to ride it because she isn't into cycling. She doesn't ride the very nice Scott hybrid I bought her either. Right now the only biking she does is stoking our tandem.

A few minutes with some steel wool on those rims would make me a lot less concerned about getting tetanus while riding. Otherwise it looks like it could be fun.

built

One of two...building the second one now.

http://www.twospoke.com/forum/members/flroadburn/albums/flroadburn/906-ss-011-600-x-450.jpg

This one I bought as an 80's miyata at a pawn shop. Tore it down, stripped it, powder coated black then went through the parts box.

36 spoke bomber wheels, a left over chain, scratched up dura ace cranks, drop bull horn bar, left over carbon fork, nashbar brake and tt lever and keywin pedals (my favorites), thompson post and flite saddle.

It's my current ride - weighs about 20lbs. Spinning the 69 inch (42x16)gear gets me about 17 or 18 on the flats...but I no longer use an odometer/speedometer - just calc the avg speed/distance after the ride from the duration of the ride.

Here's mine! (like another reader, mine is posted elsewhere on here too-----just read ONE of my posts and you'll be fine!) It's an old Giant 'Innova' hybrid converted. I'm currently waiting for new wheel bearings as well as a "Freehub Buddy". I airbrushed and clearcoated it myself. Fun project and fun, quiet, solid bike! Shop-built chain tensioner from parts of old stuff. Hacksawed cage apart and added spacers and bolt to get alignment right. I rode it a while without tensioner using 'magic' gear, but I want to use bigger cog, and that one doesn't work out as nicely.
