I built my first fixed about 10 years ago. Converted a vintage steelie road bike into a fixed.

Re: How long have been riding a fixie?

2 years. Reading some of Sheldon Browns writings made me want to try it. I feel I've really improved as a rider on all my bikes by riding fixed.

I made my first fixed-gear in 1977. Have had at least one such bike since then. Currently have 2 geared for windy and non-windy days. As you might guess; I ride the smaller geared bike on the windy days so I don't have to suffer so much going upstream.

I'm a total noob, with less than 150 miles of fixed gear riding.

You never notice how much you coast until you can't. Pedaling all the time up hills and down made shorter rides into better workouts too.

I'm a little out of shape now but for a while I had legs like tree trunks from riding my FG.

I've been riding since around May. I'd say I have around 500 miles on these legs.

I plan on farting around the local velodrome once I take an intro class.
