Yup.

Just really enjoy it. Can't be fussed with gears - I've never even owned a bike with them.

Not a fan of fixies, coasting is a lot of fun & it's majorly hilly around here.

Takes you back

I just started on a single, it is addictive. I love the simplicity, and the challenge. It is also cool to ride something different.

I really find alot of pleasure in passing guys on carbon road bikes in my cargo shorts and etnies shoes. I love the simplicity and the clean look of a single speed.
Also I come from a bmx background so anything more than 1 brake cable seems weird to me

Here is my single speed I have been working on

I saw my friends singlespeed, bought it and never looked back. It does take me back to being a kid, I do love the altruistic nature of a single speed-it looks so clean. I love how physical you need to be when racing and attacking steep hills. Its like riding intervals...attack, recover and hammer again. I run a 32x17 and this has made me a much stronger rider which translates well to my road bike and vice versa. Moreover, I find riding my SS keeps me pedaling all the time...to be fast you have to. I heard it can be hard on the knees but I have never had a problem. Being a singlespeeder also gains a bit more respect on the race circuit as many racers understand the level of suffering you can endure....but I love it!

I think it started when my dura ace brake/shifter levers broke and I checked on replacements. Ouch.
Found Sheldon Browns articles and tried it to be cheap but still ride.

So much more quiet, kid-fun, nothing breaks, overcoming obstacles became more purely about mind and muscle rather than a flick of the wrist...I had to commit and push/spin harder, or back off and fail.

Watching my conditioning come back in leaps and bounds compared to my geared friends who use gears because they have them.

Being the weirdo in the group.

Relating on some poor level to the great cyclists of the past who raced grand tours, spring classics, and 6 days with 1 gear and grit.

Kid-fun most of all though.

Love the bike. I have Specialized I need to sell and get me one of those !

I had a 67 year old man kick my arse on a fixie on a century this fall. Found out later he was a Senior Olympic winner....somehow that didn't make me feel much better either !

I would have felt better about it.
