I'm already thinking of small, but significant changes. Just so I can really feel it's mine. Oh, but it is

Oh yeah, here's a little progress on my 78 Raleigh. I had hoped to have it done by not, but between 12 hr night shifts and trying to train for my first century this weekend(Seagull) it's been tough. Sorry for the crappy pics, but thanks to my LBS for letting me learn along the way.

ss would be even simpler. had one and liked it,the maintenance is easier. i do not like adjusting front derailleurs to the point that i do not have bikes with them in place!

I tried a 2x9 setup this last season and am all for ditching the spare chainring. Were it not for that particular frame having vertical dropouts, I'd ditch the cogs, too.

My Dirt Jump bike is currently SS. The simplicity is beautiful, I don't have to worry about tangling my derailleur cables, and best of all, I don't have to fiddle with the derailleur to make it shift properly... Especially after casing the landing.

I tried riding fixed once before. It was fun on the road, but does not work for jumping or anything crazier like that. Short of buying a coaster brake, I wonder if it's possible to get cable-less braking...

One of my rides is a trials bike (Onza Zoot). It runs a fixed hub and a freewheeling "chainring" on the crank. I think that is would be really easy to build SS bike that had both worlds with a switch of the chainring. Use the freewheeling one for coasting and have a regular chainring for when you want to run fixed. Thoughts?

Honey, it's just a bicycle. and i REALLY need it to excercise, and to ride it to work.(hehe)

Someday when I grow up I will probably lose interest in toys with wheels, but until then..

I got into the singlespeed thing because it was cheaper than replacing drivetrain parts. It seemed like every week I was breaking or wearing something out.

Now my singlespeed isn't cheap, but when I ride geared bikes, I don't really shift around too much.

I like the silent bike factor too. Sneaking up on people can be fun at night in 24 hour races.

I had always heard that to improve your riding, base miles on a fixed gear is the way to go. Two years ago, I broke down and built one up on a circa 80's Miche frame. Now, I don't want to stop riding it.
