I'll be giving a full report on Speedplay Zero pedaling system after a few rides under the belt.

Not a lot to say about them right now, but I can see the difference from the softer soled MTB shoes I used previously.

Agreed. In my experience, I hardly ever clip / unclip other than the start of the ride....lunch break / wee wee.... getting home. The joys of riding in the mountains I suppose.

OK, initial impression of the Speedplay cleats/pedal system is very positive. I went through a fitting today on the trainer, adjusting the cleats and subsequent changes to seat position. Limited riding after the fitting due to cold, light rain conditions, but the connection to the bike felt very solid. No issues standing. The float was nice and not at all like I'd been reading about skating on ice. Clipping in is a bit on the stiff side, mainly due to the newness of the spring. I could feel it getting a bit easier the more I clipped in and out. Unclipping was very simple. We did make some minor adjustments with the float after riding to adjust for heel movement toward the bike, as well as reducing the outward movement to allow less required movement to unclip. Even with the limited time on the trainer and the road, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be sold on Speedplay.
And walking wasn't all that difficult, although I wouldn't want to walk too far while pushing a bike home.

I just wish they made a bicycle shoe, kinda between a "road and mtb" shoe! I'm mostly a recreational/utility rider, using toe clips and straps and MTB shoes are too heavy and clunky and road shoes are totally too much toward the "racer" side! I need a stiff soled shoe with a slightly grippy surface but not big knobs and not slick as a newly waxed floor either!

It's called a touring shoe, BJ .... looks like a road shoe, lighter than a mtb shoe, has recessed SPD cleats for walking. Several companies make them (specialized, bontager, shimano, etc).

Carlharsch, sounds good but I've NEVER seen any in the several local bike shops we have here in Co. Springs? Always MTB or pure Road shoes, I'd REALLY like to try a pair on before I buy but I'll check out those brands, thanks!

I would think finding them in the Springs would be easy. I've seen them here in Medford and Medford is a lot smaller than the Springs. Check with your Specialized dealer for this shoe.

I know this is going to sound really dumb, but understand that I am a newbie. I have been wanting to try clipless because of everything I've heard and read, they sound great. my question is, do the cleats come with the pedals, or the shoes, or do you have to buy all 3 seperate?
