Living on the side of a valley, it's either uphill or downhill no matter which direction I turn out of my driveway. Uphill means I get a real fast downhill coast to get home. Downhill means I get to play before I pay. Usually I ride a loop that takes me to the top of the valley and then to the bottom and then back up to my home... in WNY, it's all about the hills. I sure do appreciate the lowest end of my 24!

The speed bumps I mentioned earlier. Well the other day after 22 miles on my way home I was tired, had a head wind and was on the 3rd hill I got to the top, over the crest and then it hit me one of them 35 mile an hour gust we were having right in the face . It is no fun peddling down hill after you just climbed to the top and were expecting a good coast

I have one hill close to home that I always avoided and this last summer I decided that I would NOT let the hill get the better of me. I rode up and walked, rode up and walked and finally under pedal power got to the top....and this was after my usual 15 mile ride around town. POWER TO THE PEOPLE !!!! Hills get flatter the more you ride them

Yep I have my nemesis hill right out my road I live on that is one of my goal to be able to ride from the bottom all the ay to the top this year no that I got my first 12 speed I think within a few months I should be able to but couple hills like that near me I wanna ride up. But hills to me are fun as others had said keep riding and there is most definitely no shame to walking a hill

Honey, it's just a bicycle. and i REALLY need it to excercise, and to ride it to work.(hehe)

Someday when I grow up I will probably lose interest in toys with wheels, but until then..

I agree that there is no shame to walking a hill....that tells us something about ourselves, the hill and our bike.

This should just remind us that it is not the bike that we ride but rather who we are on the bike we ride. Thanks for the reminder....

Hi guys I'm a new guy in town...

I really didn't realize how good I have it in my hood in respects to biking until recently. I've got pretty much every kind of terrain there is... rolling hills, tough hills, flat stretches and most everything in between in a 15 mile radius or so. To be honest, I find the mix up a good thing, I like a few challenges. I'd get board pretty quick I think if I lived in the Panhandle of Texas where everything seems as flat as a pancake. There's no doubt that hills are making me a stronger rider as well, and it gives me a sense of achievement to notice that what used to be tough hills become almost easy as time goes on, bringing you to the next level of hills to conquer. But having a good amount of choices in terrain in my own "backyard" is something I really appreciate.
