To anyone who may have an idea. Why don't I see any evidence of a joint in the braking surface of the rim? That is very unusual and makes me think that part of the rim is not from the same piece of metal as the channel part. Am I way off on this? Did they just hide the joint like they tried to do on the other part?

It's extruded, (most likely from a 203mm log) the rolled into a hoop before being welded. The welds on the brake surface get smoothed during machining, but they're there. Not sure how to explain the rest of that mess at the joint.

Yes but if I looked closely, I could always see the joint even on the machined braking surface on every rim I've ever owned except these. It's odd that the joint is so horribly evident elsewhere despite efforts to conceal, but invisible on the braking surface.

That's because it's been welded. They went through all the trouble of welding the joint, but did a horrendous job. So only the machined bit looks nice.
